VENTURES 2011/8
About grant
VENTURES is a programme offered by Foundation for Polish Science.
The overall objective of the programme is to increase the number of innovative projects realized by young researchers and to encourage students, graduates and PhD students to take up research projects which might result in practical application.
Eligible for the competition are the Polish research entities, where Master or PhD students realize their projects or those, who employ Master graduates as research personnel. The application forms are submitted by the institutions together with a student/graduate or PhD student, being the project leader.
For details see Fundation for Polish Science project center.
Project description
The aim of the research is to develop methods that allow recognition of textures specific to pigment lesions. In particular structures that are characteristic to malignant melanoma. Typical dermoscopic structures that are used in ABCD rule for lesion evaluation are: dots, globules, pigmented streaks, blood vessels, pigment network, scar-like patterns and areas of regression. These patterns will later be used as features that form a feature vector in classification system.
Project leader: Leszek Nowak
Project title: Texture analysis and recognition for computer-aided diagnostics of skin lesions digital images
Project value: 50 000 PLN
Project duration: 12 months
Project start: 01 May 2012
Project ends: 30 April 2013
For details see Melanoma Computer-aided Diagnostics project.
